Another former Kentucky Track star will represent the United States at Worlds.

Last night, Daniel Roberts, UK Class of 2019, won the 110m hurdles at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, securing his spot at the World Championships next month in Budapest. Roberts finished in 13.05 seconds, edging Cordell Tinch by three-hundredths of a second for his third 110m hurdles national title.

Roberts will join fellow former Cats Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Keni Harrison, and Masai Russell on Team USA. On Saturday, McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400m in 48.74 seconds, which is her personal best in the event, the leading time in the world this year, and just four-thousandths of a second shy of the national record. She will now decide whether to run the 400m or the 400m hurdles in Budapest. Harrison (12.42 seconds) and Russell (12.458) finished second and third in the 100m hurdles to secure their spots on Team USA. The World Championships take place August 19 – 27.

If you haven’t seen Sydney’s 400m run yet, stop for one minute and check it out. She’s only the third American woman in history to run the race in under 49 seconds and just started competing in the 400m flat for the first time in two years last month.

Abby Steiner finishes 4th in 200m after an injury-laden season

One of Kentucky Track’s biggest stars will not be making the trip to Budapest. Abby Steiner finished fourth in the 200m final behind Gabby Thomas, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Kayla White with a time of 22.07 seconds. Only the top three finishers qualify for Worlds. Steiner won the 200m last year in 21.77 seconds. Afterward, she told FloSports she’s been dealing with a bone spur in her left foot throughout the season, her first as a professional. She planned to have surgery in September but now that she’s not going to Worlds, may move it up.

“It was great to make it to the final, and when you are in the final anything can happen,” Steiner told FloSports. “It’s been a long season for me, just battling some injuries. Making the team was a win, but also giving myself some time for recovery was a win too. Just got to take care of my body and get ready for next year.”

Get well soon, Abby. Good luck to the rest of the Cats in Budapest.
