Do we temper expectations next season?

by:Matthew Hays04/17/12
Before and after the selection special on ESPNU, Dino Gaudio said that Kentucky fans will need to temper expectations for next season. Despite the fact that the Cats have already been predicted to be a top three team in most pre-preseason polls, Gaudio says that the Cats will be lucky to make the Sweet Sixteen. I can't say that I agree with him in the slightest. The argument used by Gaudio and Paul Biancardi on ESPNU was that this team next year will have absolutely no veteran presence in the locker room to show the younger guys the ropes. While it may be true that there are less returning players than we had this season, the young players we had in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Anthony Davis proved that even freshmen can play with the demeanor of a seasoned vet. Kentucky will again be the most talented team in the nation next season and I will enter the season expecting us to win the championship in April, just like this season. We are the greatest program in college basketball history and to assume anything less than a championship would be doing a disservice to all the great players and coaches who have come before us. Something about the way John Calipari has coached in his three years here has me totally at ease. The freshman learning curve has been nearly non-existent and I expect the very same thing next season. We'll miss you guys. Hope you're there to cheer us on in the Final Four.
