Indiana wide receiver transfer Donaven McCulley immediately emerged as a target of note when the transfer portal opened on Monday. Kentucky worked quickly and started recruiting the Big Ten transfer, but things got off track earlier this week when speculation started to build that McCulley could look elsewhere as his recruitment started to gain traction once the transfer portal officially opened.

Despite the noise, Kentucky was able to lock in an official visit. McCulley will be making the short drive to Lexington this weekend.

Late on Thursday night, the transfer posted a video on X that confirmed that he will be making the visit to Kentucky. That is a solid development entering a significant recruiting weekend for the Wildcats. McCulley will be joined on campus by fellow transfers Raymond Cottrell (WR, Texas A&M) and Chip Trayanum (RB, Ohio State). Kentucky’s staff will also host high school commitments with Quaysheed Scott, Marc Nave Jr., and Steven Soles all taking official visits to Kentucky.

A wild week has turned into a huge recruiting weekend.

Donaven McCulley is prominent target in the transfer portal after receiving scholarship offers from Michigan and Ohio State earlier this week. The former four-star recruit out of Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North originally played quarterback at Indiana before making the full-time transition at wide receiver. As a true junior this past season, the 6-foot-5 wideout led the Hoosiers in targets (74), receptions (48), receiving yards (644), and receiving touchdowns (six). McCulley has NFL Draft potential and only one year of eligibility remaining. Kentucky has a need for size at receiver and the transfer (6-5, 200) could check that box.

After landing a commitment from Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff earlier this week, the Wildcats will look to build some more transfer recruiting momentum this weekend. Getting Donaven McCulley on campus could give the Wildcats a great shot at landing a commitment for a top-five wideout in the portal.
