Lamb did not go quietly

If you asked me yesterday who would step up if the game got close, I wouldn't have said Doron Lamb. Lamb, whom John Calipari has called the best player on the team, carved himself quite the role this season as a sharp-shooting three goggle thrower; however, I can think of at least three other players the Cats usually go to in clutch situations. That makes Lamb's unexpected heroics that much sweeter. When Kansas pulled within ten midway through the second half, Lamb stepped up and drained back-to-back threes, padding the lead to sixteen. Kansas wouldn't go away quietly, and how fitting was it that the last points scored in the game were Lamb's two steady free throws in the final seconds. He led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 threes. John Calipari predicted Lamb would have a big night after the shoot-around on Monday, telling him and the rest of the team that he would score 25 points. While Lamb was three shy of that total, his 22 points did vault him into the lofty 1,000 point club at Kentucky, an impressive feat for a sophomore. Calipari gushed about Lamb in the postgame presser: “He is as good a guard, when his motor is moving, as any guard in the country. He can play multiple positions. He shoots it. He makes free throws. ... I knew he'd have a big game. I knew it." When people talk about this team twenty years from now, they'll talk about Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist, and Jones. Those who know this team well will mention Miller, Wiltjer and Teague's invaluable contributions. With his performance last night, Doron Lamb made sure number 20 is part of the conversation too.
