ESPN puts Kentucky at #24 in Power Rankings

by:Thomas Beisner•02/24/11
Despite dropping another road contest to a vastly inferior team last night in Fayetteville, ESPN's new weekly power rankings place the Cats at #24, good for the third-best team in the SEC and the second-best in the state.  Florida checks in at #12, Vandy at #23 and Louisville at #16. The rankings are based off of a group of 16 ESPN college basktball writers, researchers and TV personalities and while you can certainly make a case for John Calipari's team not deserving a top-25 position, it is interesting to see the people who voted them outside of the rankings.  They are a Calipari foe (Forde), a friend of Clyde (Fraschilla), a researcher (McCallum), a Georgia alum and SEC guy (Schlabach), a hated name from the past (Simon) and a prominent former Blue Devil (Williams).  Clearly, the Cats are victim of a conspiracy.  The 1-6 SEC road record has nothing to do with it. Here is where each member of the panel ranked the Cats:  Jay Bilas: 18 Eamonn Brennan: 24 Brett Edgerton: 25 LaPhonso Ellis: 23 Pat Forde: Unranked Fran Fraschilla: Unranked Doug Gottlieb: 19 Andy Katz: 24 Diamond Leung: 21 Joe Lunardi: 24 Jason McCallum: Unranked Dana O'Neil-Forde: 23 Mark Schlabach: Unranked Miles Simon: Unranked Dick Vitale: 25 Jay Williams: Unranked
