It’s a big weekend in Lexington — and the start of many big weekends in Lexington. The recruiting window is now open with coaches able to fly across the country to meet with their top targets and recruits beginning their fall visits to potential schools as we inch closer toward commitment season and the early signing period.

Up first for Kentucky? A pair of top-25 prospects holding offers from the Wildcats: No. 4 overall Caleb Holt and No. 23 overall Maximo Adams.

It’s two visitors of a dozen total on the books in Lexington, with at least one prospect in town every week from now through Big Blue Madness in mid-October. What do you need to know about the first attendees of the fall, in town for Kentucky football’s SEC opener against Ole Miss? KSR has you covered with the weekend primer.

5-star SG Caleb Holt

Ranking: No. 4 overall, No. 2 shooting guard
Hometown: Huntsville, AL
High School: Prolific Prep
Visits: Ole Miss (April 18), Arkansas (Aug. 30), Kentucky (Sept. 5), Alabama (Oct. 3) and Auburn (Oct. 10)
Kentucky offer: July 26, 2024

Caleb Holt is a tough, physical guard known for being one of the most competitive prospects in 2026. He’s got all of the tools at 6-5, 200 pounds to be a two-way star with strength, athleticism and tenacity on the defensive end. Above all else, he’s a winner, earning three gold medals with USA Basketball and the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Cup Championship. He earned 3SSB MVP honors after averaging 19.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals per contest.

The top-five talent’s recruitment was originally seen as a toss-up between the in-state rivals, Alabama and Auburn, but Holt has opened the door for others — including Kentucky — to not only get involved, but emerge as legitimate contenders. The Wildcats undoubtedly have some ground to make up to be considered a favorite, but they’re right in the mix and this weekend’s official visit will go a long way in deciding just how serious they can be in this one.

“(Mark Pope) definitely wants me to come there, he wants me to help them win national championship,” he told KSR. “… He’s a coach that believes in me, believes I can play one through three and just impact the game, dominate through my physical ability. My end goal is to hear my name in the draft and he feels like can help me get there.”

4-star SF Maximo Adams

Ranking: No. 23 overall, No. 10 small forward
Hometown: Harbor City, CA
High School: Sierra Canyon
Visits: USC (June 30), Michigan State (Sept. 11), Kansas (Sept. 19), Texas (Sept. 27), North Carolina (Oct. 31), and Duke (Nov. 8)
Kentucky offer: July 23, 2025

Maximo Adams is a newer name for the Wildcats, picking up an offer following a strong summer on the Nike EYBL circuit as one of the fastest-rising prospects in the class. Kentucky’s pursuit has ramped up just as quickly — and there is an angle working in the school’s advantage, as the four-star wing is the younger brother of Marcus Adams Jr., who played for Mark Pope at BYU in 2023-24.

Standing 6-7, 200 pounds, Adams is a versatile and efficient prospect capable of scoring at all three levels, defending multiple positions and attacking the glass. He averaged 19.4 points on 50/39/71 splits and 10.5 rebounds in the EYBL regular season, then 18.8 points on 51/40/86 splits and 10.2 rebounds in five games at Peach Jam.

“It means a lot to get an offer from Kentucky,” the 6-7 wing out of California told KSR+ after adding an offer in July. “Especially coming from Coach [Mark] Pope, who’s a great coach and runs a great program. I think it’s a great program. Mark Pope came from BYU, and my brother went to BYU. Then, he transitioned to Kentucky, and he’s a great coach.”
