First Down Kentucky: There's Treachery Afoot
College football is not for the faint of heart. Even though Nick Saban believes it’s a bad thing the players are only focused on their worth to a school, it’s not a new development for coaches and administrators. A day after Saban’s NIL hand-wringing on Capitol Hill, two high-propfile moves were made in the sport showing how little loyalty matters to the supposed adults.
Tony Alford was preparing to coach one of the sport’s most loaded position rooms this fall at Ohio State. The Buckeyes had TreVeyon Henderson returning and acquired Quinshon Judkins from the transfers portal. Instead of staying in Columbus, Alford is leaving to coach the Buckeyes’ most hated rival, Michigan.
If you think that’s bad, did you know Trev Alberts was a unanimous All-American at Nebraska in 1993? He also won the Jack Lambert and Dick Butkus Awards before becoming a top-five pick in the NFL Draft. A College Football Hall of Famer with his No. 34 jersey retired at the school, he returned to his alma mater as the athletic director to help rebuild the struggling football program in 2021.
Three years later, he’s leaving Nebraska for more money. That’s right, Texas A&M called and that oil money meant more than his precious alma mater. If you think the players aren’t prioritizing the right things, blame it on the adults.
Kentucky Football Team Bonding
Before the Cats hit the road for a week away at spring break, new director of player development Dean Hood hosted some team bonding at the Nutter Field House. The Kentucky football players participated in multiple competitions to spend more quality time together.

An Enlightening Stat
Corey Price delights the BBN with statistical anecdotes that often produce a shocking response. I’m not sure that will be the case today, but it’s nevertheless a hilarious stat.
