Great news today out of Gainesville.

After collapsing to the floor during a game on Dec. 12, Florida star forward Keyontae Johnson was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma not long after. While we’ve gotten positive updates since then – the biggest being a 30-second video from Johnson himself thanking fans for the support – he has remained in the hospital ever since.

Today, though, the junior forward was finally released from the hospital, returning home just in time for Christmas.

“Today is a great day! Keyontae is being released from the hospital,” the Johnson family said in a statement. “We continue to be amazed at the pace of his recovery and look forward to spending Christmas together as a family.”

As for the specifics of the incident and what may have caused Johnson to collapse, the player’s family said those details remain unclear, but they will provide an update when doctors learn more about the situation.

“Along with so many well wishes and prayers, we’ve understandably gotten questions about the cause and extent of Keyontae’s illness,” the Johnson family added. “As much as everyone involved wants firm answers, the process to draw definitive conclusions continues, and we ask for patience as the medical professionals continue their work.

“We are committed to sharing not only updates on Keyontae but also any information we think could help others. When we have that, we will share it. Until then, we continue to be grateful for the care and support Keyontae is receiving.”

Johnson was averaging 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game leading up to the incident.
