Fordham hires Keith Urgo as coach, Bruiser Flint once considered

Bruiser Flint will not be the next head coach at Fordham. Instead, the Rams will be promoting from within, hiring assistant coach Keith Urgo to take over the program.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein broke the news late Monday evening.
“Fordham will hire Keith Urgo as its next head basketball coach,” Rothstein reported Monday. “An official announcement is expected soon.”
Urgo served as Fordham’s top assistant in 2021-22 under former head coach Kyle Neptune, who was hired at Villanova to replace Jay Wright last week.

Adam Zagoria of ZAGSBLOG reported Sunday that Kentucky associate head coach Bruiser Flint would interview for the head coaching job at Fordham. He joined the likes of Providence assistant Ivan Thomas and Rutgers associate head coach Brandin Knight in consideration, giving the Rams three total options — outside of hiring from within, of course.
A decision was expected to open the week. Now, it appears Fordham has found its guy.
The Rams have not posted a winning season since going 17-14 in 2015-16. Fordham finished 16-16 last season overall and 8-10 in Atlantic 10 play.
Now, the team reportedly has found its answer moving forward, and it won’t be Flint.
