The highest-ranked recruit from Kentucky’s 2023 recruiting class is leaving Lexington after only one season. Wide receiver Shamar Porter is in the transfer portal. He will have four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting this fall.

A product of Nashville powerhouse Ensworth, Porter was a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He was the No. 285 player in the On3 Industry Rankings, Kentucky’s only top 300 prospect from the high school ranks in the last cycle.

Porter is an impressive-looking athlete. At 6-foot-3, he has the physicality and length to compete in the SEC, although the Big Blue Nation never got to see that in action.

Porter suffered an ankle injury during fall camp. The most vital time to move up and down the depth chart, he was stuck behind the 8-ball and never could get any traction to crack the rotation. Kentucky put Porter on the travel squad to keep him engaged, but he’s prepared to take his talents elsewhere this offseason after his primary recruiter, Scott Woodward, was let go last week.

Following the departure of Porter, Kentucky has eight wide receivers on its roster for the 2024 season. The Cats will seek reinforcements next season from the portal and a top candidate is former Indiana Hoosier Donaven McCulley, a 6-foot-5 outside receiver that is expected to visit Kentucky this weekend.
