While Kentucky women’s basketball sits at home on the couch, the NCAA Tournament is in full swing, and Sunday night’s slate of games was remarkable. Two-seed Stanford escaped an upset at the hands of Audi Crooks and the seven-seed Iowa State Cyclones, but there was another awesome game on display, too.

4-seed Virginia Tech and 5-seed Baylor squared off in Blacksburg in what was a thrilling round of 32 matchup. On top of that, it was riddled with several Kentucky-related storylines. For starters, the Hokies are coached by Kenny Brooks — a top candidate for the open Kentucky WBB job. Then, two former ‘Cats suited up for Baylor in Dre’Una Edwards and Jada Walker.

Oh, and Walker had the game of her life.

This season, Walker has averaged just 8.2 points per game which is sixth on the team. Edwards’ 11.7 points per game are tops for the Bears. However, on Sunday night, averages clearly didn’t matter. In 27 minutes of action, Walker scored a career-high 28 points on 9-16 shooting as Baylor took down the Hokies to advance to the Sweet 16.

From the get-go, it was clear that Walker was going to have a big night. Time after time, shots just kept falling in. Heck, she even got a half-court heave to find the bottom of the net at the end of the third quarter.

At Kentucky, Walker was a much-needed piece that ended up being a pretty big loss when she transferred out. However, it is nice to see that she has carved out a pivotal role on a solid Baylor team. The Bears take on the winner of 1-seed USC and 8-seed Kansas on March 30th. You can find the official bracket here.

Maybe we’ll get to see a Jada Walker/Juju Watkins matchup that could be just as exciting as Sunday night’s game was.

As a result of Virginia Tech’s loss, all eyes will now turn to Coach Brooks and whether or not he leaves the Hokies for Lexington.
