Greetings, friends. It's time to start the weekend. While Drew and Mychal Mulder are celebrating their big nights, let's also wish a Happy 91st birthday to the only former president whose sock-game rivals Doron Lamb's - George Bush Sr. Happy birthday, George. On to the news:

Insiders say Minnesota wants to take Karl Towns at #1

USATSI_8483707_154849602_lowres Apparently the folks in the Timberwolves’ front office are smart. A source told Forbes’ Mark Heisler that there is “no doubt” Minnesota will take Karl at the #1 slot in the NBA Draft this June. Word on road was that Flip Saunders and the T-Wolves preferred Jahlil Okafor, but they’ve since flipped to Team Karl after last week’s meeting in LA. While Minneapolis is a bit of a downgrade from Los Angeles (who holds the number two pick), it would be great to see Karl achieve this milestone. The pick would make Karl the third of Cal’s player to be picked first overall in his six years at Kentucky. That’s a pretty good clip.

VJ King commits to Louisville

vjking A bit of a surprise occurred today when 2016 recruit VJ King unexpectedly announced his college choice. After reportedly being down to Kentucky, Louisville, and Connecticut — the five-star SF decided to take his talents to the lesser of the Commonwealth schools. Shortly after his commitment, word leaked that UK never offered King a scholarship — so the Cats were never really an option to start with. Oh well. Best of luck over there, VJ. You’ll need it.

Willie would like to play with Cousins in Sacramento

cousinsUSA After Demarcus sang the praises of fellow Cat Willie Cauley-Stein yesterday, WCS returned the affection in an interview with reporters today. Willie said he would like to play with Cousins in Sacramento (who has the #6 pick) and thinks the two complement each other well:
He can do a little bit of everything. He’s more of a power guy, I’m more of a finesse, get out and run and do a lot of stuff using my speed and quickness. He’s more of a guy that’s going to bang with you, get mean and stuff like that. We kind of just compliment each other. We’re polar opposites
While it’s hard to top the Hayes/Patterson/Cousins combo that inhabited Sac-town a few seasons ago, it would be cool to see Willie and Demarcus team up.

Could the Cats upset Auburn and/or Tennessee this year?

Saturday Down South’s Brett Weisband thinks so. He picked potential upsets in each week of the SEC season today — and Kentucky found themselves in two spots. Weisband thinks the Cats have a good chance to knock-off both Auburn and Tennessee, citing Kentucky’s offense and Tennessee’s inexperience as factors that could contribute. Let’s do it.

Dakari’s still not over the Wisconsin loss

dakari In an interview with reporters after a workout with the Brooklyn Nets yesterday, Dakari  Johnson expressed his lingering sorrow about this April’s loss to Wisconsin. “I’m still not over it, it’s still a tough loss,” he said. We feel ya there. Wisconsin guard Josh Gasser was also at the workout, but Dakari said he and Josh were cool. I like to think he would have different things to stay about Kaminsky.
