Georgia Quarterback Jamie Newman will reportedly opt-out of 2020 season

Georgia is looking for a new starting quarterback, again.

Bruce Feldman and Seth Emerson report that Jamie Newman is expected to opt-out of the 2020 coronavirus-plagued college football season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

A grad transfer from Wake Forest, Newman was a preseason third team All-SEC quarterback according to Phil Steele, projected to potentially play his way into the first round of the NFL Draft under first-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Don’t let that terrible mustache fool you. JT Daniels can play ball. He was the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2018 class and second-ranked quarterback, trailing only Trevor Lawrence. Daniels started for USC as a freshman and threw for more than 2,500 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Daniels’ time at USC ended after he suffered a season-ending injury in week one of the 2019 season. It’s been a year since the incident, yet Daniels is still not cleared to return to full contact. The delayed start of the 2020 season gives Georgia’s offense some time to get their quarterback healthy. If he’s not good to go by Sept. 26, it will be tough sledding for the three-time defending SEC East champs.
