According to Nova.rs, forward Filip Petrusev is leaving the Gonzaga basketball program to play professionally for Mega Bemax in his hometown of Belgrade, Serbia. As you recall from UK's most recent excursion to the Bahamas, Mega Bemax is one of Europe's most storied franchises. Jon Rothstein says Petrusev has signed a multi-year deal. Last year Petrusev was a Wooden All-American and named player of the year in the West Coast Conference. The 6-foot-11 forward averaged 17.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting a league-best 56.5% from the field. Petrusev announced his intent to declare for the NBA Draft in April, but left the door open for a return to Spokane. Even though Petrusev has not publicly spoken on the matter, the future of college and NBA basketball during the coronavirus pandemic probably played a role in his decision to return to Serbia. The Adriatic Basketball Association will resume its basketball season in September.
