Gene Keady's combover pretty much defined Purdue Basketball for me in the 90's. It was as much a part of the sport as Bob Knight's sweater vests, Indiana's candy-striped pants, and Rick Pitino's suits. Unbelievably, no one has written a profile of Keady's combover until now. Our good friend
Gregg Doyel has an amazing interview up right now with Keady about his hair, and his decision to ditch the combover for good a few years ago. Here's an excerpt:
"It was ugly," [Keady] says. "Everyone was always asking, 'What is it? Why are you doing it?' I did it because I was on TV. I did it because I was going bald. I thought I looked gorgeous with the combover. Of course, it was very ugly."
Turns out it wasn't even real. Keady admits he had extensions to help make the combover even more magnificent, and the upkeep was incredibly expensive. Stop what you're doing and go on over to the Indy Star to read more.
