The Kroger KSR Game of the Week is heading west for a Friday night matchup that features Mayfield hosting Hopkinsville. 2A Mayfield is a traditional powerhouse that’s won twelve state championships and finished runner-up on eleven occasions. This is the Kroger KSR Game of the Week’s first journey west of Owensboro.

Mayfield opened the season with a 36-0 win over rival Graves County. The Cardinals are led by quarterback Zane Cartwright. Brajone Dabney, Jatarious Starks, Gavin Jackson, and Mekhi Dumas all scored touchdowns last Friday. Legendary head coach Joe Morris’ defense allowed zero points in the opener.

Hopkinsville hails from 4A, District 1. The Tigers fell 22-0 at Ballard last week. They are led by one of the most dynamic players in Western Kentucky, Daisjuan Mercer. The speedster is a three-way star. Hopkinsville won back-to-back state championships in 1965 and 1966. KSR will have more on this matchup as we close in on Friday night.

Kroger is a staple in your hometown community just like high school football. There’s nothing quite like Friday nights in the Bluegrass. We are honored to share this journey with Kroger and you for the third consecutive season.
