I was wondering how we'd replace Preston LeMaster

Tubby and Co. just couldn’t wait until Friday night for Mark Krebs. The former NewCath standout and Thomas More transfer was offered a walk-on spot yesterday for the ’07-’08 season, adding a little insurance to the Jai Lucas/Scotty Hopson pursuit. I was surprised to hear that Krebs was a Fightin’ Saint of Thomas More, since I too spent a year playing atheltics at that dump (it’s actually a good school, just not much fun for a southern protestant). I called one of my old buddies who played with Krebs on the basketball team last season. He basically told me that Krebs was a “genius” and one of those “overly nice guys who seems fake, but he’s genuine.” Enough about personality, is he a player? “He’s not going to be dunking on (Randolph) Morris anytime soon. But when he gets hot he’s automatic. He’s pretty clutch too.”

Krebs has some height: 6’5″, but isn’t an Adam Williams type athelte, although he’s probably as good of a player. Krebs averaged 9.5 ppg in 24mpg last season as a freshman at Thomas More.

Basically, my friend from the team confirmed what we think of most walk-ons outside of Ravi Moss–that Krebs will work hard in practice but will rarely see the floor. Still, always good to have kids like this who know what UK basketball is all about and can reiterate that to the others. He’ll also push in practice (John Waybe b.s.) and will do wonders for the team’s cumulative GPA.
