The Hefty Lefty's legacy lives on, thanks to Howard Brown. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound athlete Kansas City native just wrapped up a high school football career that featured more than 6,000 yards and 82 touchdowns. In his senior season Brown threw 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions to lead his team to an 11-1 record, all while playing snaps at defensive tackle. Brown's versatility is what makes his high school film so remarkable. One play he's running over opponents 15 yards down field. The next he's lined up on the other side of the center, busting into the backfield to force a fumble. In a conversation with 247 Sports, Brown's high school football coach, Matt Lowe, believes Brown could be a two-way star at the next level. Brown's big right arm can launch the ball 74 yards. Lowe couldn't afford to fatigue his star quarterback on defense, playing only about 20 or so snaps last year. Just scratching the service, Iowa State believes he has enough potential to star on the D-line in Ames, while leaving the door open for him to play quarterback. “Coach [Matt] Campbell already said he’s putting in a couple of plays for me at QB,” Brown said.
