Is this the end for Couch???

by:Matt Jones07/02/06
For those of us with big hearts who are UK fans, the saga of Tim Couch has been difficult. Because the Leslie County warrior is likely one of the two or three best players in Kentucky football history and is from deep in the heart of the mountains, Couch holds a special place in most fans' hearts. I remember watching Couch growing up and being amazed that such a player could come from Eastern Kentucky, especially one that could have had a career in basketball as well had he so chosen. His time at Kentucky started slowly with the bizarre Bill Curry decision to have him run the option, but ended with him being coached by the perfect person to display his talents. With Mumme opening the passing floodgates, Couch gave Kentucky some of the best teams of the last 30 years. He represents the only first overall NFL draft pick in school history and he still is likely the most famous alumnus of the school. However ending up in Cleveland, an expansion city with unreasonable fans, ended up doing Couch in. His career in Cleveland was not bad, but it wasnt all-world either....due in large part, to the complete absence of an offensive line. It culminated in his famous crying episode after the Cleveland fans cheered his injury, an action that still rates as one of the worst in fandom. Now comes word that Couch will have ANOTHER shoulder surgery and that this could represent the end of his career. It really is a shame as his talent was amazing and his representation of Kentucky, whether on the field or off with his Playboy girlfriends, brought lots of publicity for the school. We wish Tim well and hope that whatever car dealerships he ends up owning will be extremely successful.
