On signing day we waited. On the second day of the Early Signing Period we kept waiting. Then we waited some more. Despite an optimistic tone from Mark Stoops, Jamarion Wilcox remained quiet throughout the three-day signing period in December. Now he’s finally ready to publicly share some news.

Travis Graf of Cats Illustrated is expecting the talented running back to announce a decision on Friday. Despite the delays, Kentucky is the favorite to land Wilcox over Auburn, Clemson and others.

Wilcox could announce a commitment. He could also share that he has already signed with Kentucky and will enroll early. After all, many of the early enrollees will be arriving on campus this weekend. We will be patiently waiting to learn more later this week.

Wilcox is the ninth-ranked running back in America and a Top 150 prospect overall, according to Rivals. A three-star prospect in the On3 Consensus, this fall he rushed for more than 2,000 yards and 29 touchdowns this year at South Paulding High School outside of Atlanta. Although Mark Stoops cannot directly comment on unsigned players, he hinted at the addition of Wilcox in an interview with KSR during the Early Signing Period.

“I love the way we closed. I really felt like, obviously with the addition of transfers, but at the high school level, the way we closed was about as good as we can,” Stoops said. “We have one more big-time guy out there that’s a lightning bolt that can go. He’s a playmaker, an offensive playmaker that I believe we still have a good chance to still get in the boat and that would really be a home run for us.”

The Wildcats have already added one running back this offseason, Vanderbilt transfer Ray Davis. Jamarion Wilcox could be the lightning to Davis’ thunder in 2023. We should know more later this week.
