Jamin Davis has value for Defensive Rookie of the Year

The 2021 NFL Draft is complete and Jamin Davis is walking into a great situation with the Washington Football Team. There’s no denying it.

The NFC East contender addressed quarterback in the offseason by signing wily veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and has continued to add to their defense with smart acquisitions through both the draft and free agency. After No. 2 overall pick Chase Young won Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, WFT and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio will look to have a repeat winner in 2021.

The day after the draft was complete, the fine folks in the desert released some prop bets for the 2021 NFL season. Of course, you can place a wager on whether Aaron Rodgers will play for the Green Bay Packers or not next season but that is anyone’s guess. No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence will get plenty of action for Offensive Rookie of the Year as he passes the football over the yard for the Jacksonville Jaguars while playing for Urban Meyer. Where the real value is found is on the defensive side of the football. Here are your current Defensive Rookie of the Year odds.

With no obvious defensive superstar in this draft, the field is wide open. Usually, an edge rusher can be tough to beat in this spot but this was a down year for that — sorry, Jaelan Phillips and Kwity Paye. On the outside, cornerback can be a hard transition and these players usually don’t have a chance unless ball production is recorded — sorry, Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn.

As you keep moving down the list, Davis is just too good to pass up. The first-round selection should be a starter at Mike and has a great chance to record a ton of tackles playing behind a loaded defensive line. Dropping into zone coverage, Davis should excel in the middle of that WFT defense and has a chance to make some plays on the ball thanks to a dynamite pass rush.

NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah compared the linebacker to All-Pro Darius Leonard who won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2018 with the Indianapolis Colts. Thanks to a lack of superstar power in this draft class to go along with a great situation, Davis will have a great chance to bring home the hardware in 2021.

The 9/1 odds might just be too good to pass up.
