All three in-state newcomers have arrived on campus, Jasper Johnson making the short drive over to the Wildcat Coal Lodge for move-in, the Lexington native joining Malachi Moreno and Reece Potter to round out the trio.

Braydon Hawthorne also moved in Thursday to make it four, following the likes of Jayden Quaintance, Denzel Aberdeen and Jaland Lowe to do the same earlier in the week. In the snap of a finger, eight of Kentucky’s 10 new additions are on campus — only missing Mouhamed Dioubate and Andrija Jelavic at this point.

From there, it’ll be Otega Oweh, Brandon Garrison, Collin Chandler and Trent Noah returning to Lexington.

“What’s up, BBN? Jasper here, ready to get moved in,” Johnson said. “Ready to get to work, ready to bring in No. 9. Let’s do it.”

Longtime friend Malachi Moreno was there waiting for him upon his arrival.

Johnson also shared his uniform number with a sneak peek of his locker at the Joe Craft Center, the five-star recruit rocking No. 2 in the blue and white as a freshman.

“Ky Til I Die,” he said.

Mark Pope has not been shy when talking about the Lexington native’s future as a Wildcat, saying he not only had ‘superstar’ potential, but that the program needed him to be great.

“I think Jasper Johnson is a superstar. I expect him to come in here and be great,” Pope said during his offseason press conference last month. “And for every freshman, there is a learning curve in terms of the physicality and intensity of the game, the relentless physicality and intensity of the game. But Jasper Johnson has got a really, really incredible skill set. He’s one of those guys.

“… He’s got a poise about him. He’s a little bit unflappable. He’s able to kind of metabolize a lot of input and kind of keep himself even-keeled. I think he’s a big shot maker. I expect him to be, like he needs to come here and be great, and that’s what he wants to do. That’s what we want from him.”

The journey begins today.
