The Kentucky Football team just got another big piece of good news. Starting outside linebacker JJ Weaver just announced he will return to Kentucky for a sixth season. Appropriately, the Louisville native shared the news just before the tipoff of the Kentucky-Louisville basketball game. I have a feeling a sixth victory over the Cards on the gridiron is on his agenda.

“First and foremost, I’m going to keep it short and simple,” Weaver said. “I want to say thank you to God and my family, the coaching staff, and BBN community. I’m coming back for my last year. You dig?”

Last spring, Weaver decided to return to school for his senior season instead of going to the NFL Draft. The two-time team captain has 40 tackles, 5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble this season, numbers that aren’t quite as impressive as his totals as a junior; however, he finished the season strong with eight solo tackles in Kentucky’s surprise win over Louisville. His performance earned him MVP honors.

Weaver will bring some much-needed experience to Kentucky’s outside linebacker room. Tyreese Fearbry and Noah Matthews are back, but the Cats bring in five incoming freshmen: Jacob Smith, Antwan Smith, Steven Sole, Caleb Redd, and Brian Robinson.

Welcome back, JJ.
