That guy sitting next to John Calipari had a midgame wardrobe change
Kentucky’s 108-56 win over the Dominican Republic National Select Team was really fun, to say the least. Daimion Collins put guys on posters, Adou Thiero introduced himself to the Big Blue Nation, and the Cats’ athleticism was off the charts. All that said, there was one question we kept getting on our live blog and Twitter: “Who is that guy sitting next to John Calipari?”.
That guy is Jerry Haffey, a good friend of Calipari’s and a frequent sidekick on the Bahamas trips, especially when Cal watches from the stands as he often does. Tonight, the SEC Network cameras captured Cal and Haffey early and often. Hilariously, they also caught Haffey’s midgame wardrobe change. As Todd Harris and many viewers noted, Haffey was wearing a shirt with an Adidas logo in the first half but changed to a Kentucky Basketball Nike shirt in the second. Coincidence, considering the Cats are very much a Nike school? I think not.
Calipari will let each of his assistants coach a game this trip, so I have a feeling we’ll see more from Mr. Haffey throughout the week. Let’s hope he gets some more Nike gear.
