John Calipari is going all in to secure his point guard of the future. Jacob Polacheck of KSR+ has learned Kentucky’s head basketball coach will be joined by Orlando Antigua for another in-person visit with Boogie Fland.

It’s no secret that Boogie Fland is Kentucky’s top point guard target in the class of 2024. He’s the top-ranked point guard and No. 7 overall prospect in his class according to the On3 Industry Rankings — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).

It’s at least the second time this month Calipari and Antigua have visited the 6-foot-3 five-star standout from Archbishop Stepinac in Harlem, NY. One of the few 2024 prospects Kentucky is heavily pursuing, the Wildcats extended a scholarship offer to Fland last July.

There’s a familiar face that recently tossed his hat in the ring. The day after he was hired by St. John’s, Rick Pitino and assistant coach Steve Masiello visited Boogie Fland in-person, pitching the opportunity to be a hometown hero. Fland capped off his junior season by scoring 30 points in the CHSAA AA Championship game that was played at St. John’s University.

Rick Pitino has resumed his recruiting rivalry with John Calipari. Kentucky’s head coach will not let his rival’s move go unchecked. Prepare for a lengthy back-and-forth between Calipari and Pitino in the pursuit of Boogie Fland.

Boogie Fland Scouting Report

From On3’s Jamie Shaw: Boogie Fland plays with a New York flair. He has a good handle and is able to shoot the ball from each level. He has deep range off the bounce and will pull up if you give him an inch. He sees the floor well, gets his teammates in evolved, and takes care of the ball, valuing possessions. There is a floater game in there as well, with a one and two dribble pull-up.

He will need to continue getting stronger, and he is a solid athlete and has average length. The confidence is sky-high, and the skill set is obvious. He has a comfort playing on the ball or off the ball in a two-guard lineup. Never afraid of the spotlight. Charismatic. He missed a lot of his sophomore season with injury.
