John Calipari takes a jab at NCAA over vacated wins
You know how I know John Calipari’s feeling good? He just took a jab at the NCAA in his postgame press conference. Today’s win was Calipari’s 298th at Kentucky, moving him past Joe B. Hall for the second most victories by a head coach in Kentucky Basketball history. After raving about Joe B. for a few minutes, Cal joked that the legendary coach asked him to vacate some wins so second place was still his.
“Coach Hall just asked me to vacate any games that go by him. I said, they’ve already vacated some of my games, maybe they’ll just vacate some more and at the end of the day I’ll be one less than him.”
Of course, the NCAA vacated four of Calipari’s wins at UMass and an entire season at Memphis over the Marcus Camby and Derrick Rose ordeals, which is why Cal couldn’t help but get in a little jab.
“I know I’ll get a call, ‘Are you asking us to vacate your games? We’d like to do that if we can.'”
LOL. In my mind, this is how Calipari walked off the podium.
