John Cleese's Saturday Night News and Views

by: Nick Roush10/27/13@RoushKSR

Tomorrow marks the 74th birthday of the comdeic genius John Cleese. Cleese’s role in the British comedy circus known as Monty Python in the late 60s, made him immortal in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Their slap-happy sarcastic take on the ancient legend opened the door for parody greats like Airplane and Scary Movie (just one and two). The older generation remembers the young Cleese through Monty Python, while youngbloods like myself can’t forget his crooked grin in Rat Race, his role as Q in a couple James Bond movies, and his voice in the last three Shrek flicks.

“He who laughs most, learns best.”- John Cleese

Here’s the news from the last Saturday you’ll have struggle through without Kentucky sports.

– After Thursday night’s heartbreaking loss, the only place Kentucky football fans can look to for solace is the basketball team the 2014 recruiting class. Ranked 8th nationally averaging 3.28 stars per recruit (Rivals), Mark Stoops worked wonders reeling the recruits in, but how can he keep the heralded recruits committed as the Cats struggle on the football field?

1. Watch them play in person. That’s exactly what Stoops and Neal Brown did last night, watching the future of Kentucky football Drew Barker throw for 3 TDs and run for one against Scott High.

2. Never-ending attention, that’s pretty creative.

3. ‘Come be a Hero.’ 3-star WR T.V. Williams told Saturday Down South that this slogan is holding the future Wildcats together. Williams said they believe in Coach Stoops’ plan, “I am probably one of the farthest away and I have been there five times this year. Each time the recruits always hang together. We like being around each other and we have a common purpose, to be a part of a changing program.”

The forever-slim Tayshaun Prince is losing weight. Tayshaun Prince was looking to be more comfortable in his new role with the Memphis Grizzlies this preseason after being traded to Memphis last winter. Unfortunately the former Kentucky Superstar has been forced sit out the entire preseason with a stomach ailment that has caused him to lose 12-15 pounds. Hopefully the 6-9 swingman can find a way to overcome his weakness to successfully put that extra weight back on, something he’s struggled to do his entire career.

– For those of you that can’t get enough Matt Jones, this basketball season you’ll be able to hear Matt during every basketball game as the sideline reporter for the IMG radio broadcast team. Tom Leach and Mike Pratt will be making the call while Matt does his best Erin Andrews impression. Just like Cal’s boy Drake, “Started from the bottom now we here.”

– The Sklar Brothers capped off their weekend in Lexington tonight with a show at Comedy Off Broadway. Before they went to work on stage with Nate Fridson, they spent some time at Keeneland with Matt Jones. If you have some free time lying around, make sure you check out yesterday’s podcast, it was radio GOLD.
