Many thought five-star shooting guard John Petty would be the first recruit to commit to Kentucky in the 2017 class, and according to today's news, he still could be. Al.com's Daniel Boyette is reporting that Petty is officially down to Kentucky and Alabama, eliminating UConn, Kansas, and Florida State from consideration, and plans to announce his decision by November.

Petty, considered a top ten shooting guard in the class, took an official visit to Alabama on August 25, and will take his official to Kentucky on October 28. He originally planned to announce in December, but moved up his timeline to sign "by November" to be part of the early signing period.
Avery Johnson's been doing his best to get Petty to stay home and be a hero, but announcing right after you visit Kentucky? Sounds like a good sign for the Cats to me. (Plus, you know, Kentucky.)
