One of Kentucky’s defensive stars is taking his talents to the NFL, but first, he’ll put on that Kentucky Blue and White one more time. Super-senior outside linebacker Jordan Wright announced on social media that he will declare for the NFL Draft after playing in the Music City Bowl. Wright used his extra year of eligibility for COVID relief for the 2022 season, so consider this a goodbye letter to BBN and a heads-up that he’s playing in the bowl game more than anything else.

“Big Blue Nation,

First and foremost, I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream and play college football. Without You I would be nothing and none of this would be possible.

To my family, friends, and everyone who has been involved in my process, thank you for giving me everything. Thank you for your sacrifices, countless love, support, and prayers. Like I heard my parents say and demonstrate, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ so I want to say thanks and I love you all for that.

To my coaches and the whole UK staff y’all have believed in me through the ups and the downs and worked with me from beginning to end. From Signing Day to earning my degree, your countless support on and off the field, words cannot express my gratitude and what you’ve done for me.

To my brothers, it was an honor being team captain. Thank you for the memories, the laughs, the love, the talks, the lessons, and the hard work daily. It has shaped me into the person I am today.

To Big Blue Nation, I want to thank you all for your endless support and I greatly appreciate everything you have done. You are the best fans ever!

With that being said, I would like to announce that after playing in the bowl game I will be pursuing my dreams of playing at the next level and declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat.”

Wright led Kentucky in tackles for loss this season, with 8.5, and tied for third in overall tackles with 58. A team captain, Wright played in 42 career games with 12 starting assignments. Over five seasons, he totaled 106 career tackles with 15.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks and also has 12 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and six quarterback hurries.
