NBA prospects projected to go as high as Julius Randle will often skip the draft combine. Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid are three examples of that this year. But missing out on the pre-draft workouts in Chicago was never an option for Randle.
"I'm a competitor," he told Seth Davis and Steve Smith during an interview on the NBA TV set.
Matt Winer said NBA GMs are anxious to learn Randle's true height and standing reach this week when the official measurements are released. Fellow combine analyst Grant Hill said teams will love Randle's relentlessness on the glass and his ability to post up in the paint.
"His scoring and his rebounding is going to allow him to come in and make an impact right away," Hill said.
"This kid, he's got a chance to be really special."
Potentially making an impact as a rookie didn't make the decision to leave Lexington any easier. Randle admitted it was hard to leave UK when it came time to throw his name in the draft.
"I didn't want to."
