Keeneland has submitted a request that would bring a five-day Summer Meet to the race tack in July. In a press release sent out by Keeneland, they have submitted the request to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission’s Race Dates Committee and they would like the event to be held from Wednesday, July 8 through Sunday, July 12. Due to current safety guidelines, no spectators will be allowed inside the venue. https://twitter.com/keenelandracing/status/1263978121772118021 “We are excited about the return of racing to Keeneland and know this will be welcome news for our horsemen, fans and the Central Kentucky community,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said in a statement. “This purse money represents significant income for horsemen, and while the races will be spectator-free, the Keeneland team is hard at work on creative ways to involve fans watching at home and to enhance our simulcast product for handicappers.” The rules set in place concerning how Keeneland will deal with COVID-19 are going to be similar to the current protocols at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The guidelines will then have to be approved by KY Governor Andy Beshear. The current plan is for Keeneland to host 9-10 races throughout each day of the Summer Meet.
