Kelvin Joseph explains why he's the top CB in the draft

by:Ty Schadt04/11/21

Earlier this week, former UK defensive back Kelvin “Bossman Fat” Joseph joined NFL Network for an interview with Andrew Siciliano, where he made the case for himself as the draft’s top cornerback.

On the heels of a dazzling pro day that vaulted him into potential first-round pick territory, Joseph gave his pitch.

“I’m just an all-around physical athlete,” said the Louisiana native. “[I’m] tough, make plays, and [am] just smart on the field.”

Siciliano noted the eye-popping 4.34 40-yard dash from his pro day, a time which Joseph claims is actually incorrect. According to him, it was actually more like a 4.28.

“I was moving on that one,” said Joseph with a smile.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network has Joseph going 31st overall to the Kansas City Chiefs in his latest mock draftAs far as landing spots go, this might be the sweetest for Bossman Fat. Obviously, he could stand to gain more financially by going higher, but there’s a lot to like about being a Chief. You get Patrick Mahomes as your QB, which means you’ll have a chance to compete for a championship, but I also think Kansas City’s secondary would be one Joseph could do well in.

The Chiefs are led defensively by safety Tyrann Mathieu, a player who has a lot of similarities to Joseph. Both went to LSU, both had some character concerns that led to their suspension/dismissal from the team, and both have awesome nicknames.

If there’s anyone in the NFL Bossman Fat could stand to learn from, it’s without a doubt the Honey Badger. Mathieu really turned around his reputation in the league and is now regarded as a top leader and mentor. He’s the heart and soul of a team that’s been to back-to-back Super Bowls and represents a perfect blueprint for how Joseph could mold himself into a similar NFL talent.

But either way, the speculation about where Joseph will land shall be over soon. The NFL Draft commences in a little under three weeks, with Round 1 set for April 29th at 8 p.m. Be sure to keep up with us here on KSR for more coverage of our former Wildcats as they break into the league.
