Expect Alabama transfer Kendrick Law to have big role in Kentucky's offense

Kentucky attacked the transfer portal in the offseason to rebuild the offense as offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan entered year two in Lexington. The offensive line build got much of the attention but the staff had plenty of work to do at wide receiver. That process ended with the Cats signing five high school prospects and adding four transfers to the room.

Landing Alabama transfer Kendrick Law over Arkansas and Florida State was one of the program’s top additions during the winter transfer portal cycle. Expectations were high for this SEC transfer. Those expectations are only growing at the end of the summer.

“A lot of the things we’ll be doing this year will go through Kendrick Law,” Hamdan said at the Lexington Kickoff Luncheon on Monday when discussing Kentucky’s wide receiver room.

The former top-100 recruit from Louisiana with a track background (10.48 100m as a junior in high school) played at least 190 snaps in each of his three seasons in Tuscaloosa. Law brings 33 career receptions and a slot skill set to the Kentucky offense. The senior with one year of eligibility remaining also has kickoff return experience. This addition is very much expected to be the Barion Brown replacement in 2025. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops confirmed on Monday that Law will be first up on kickoff return.

“K-Law is strong and can run,” Stoops said.

Throughout the spring and for a large portion of the summer, Kentucky’s coaching staff did not want to get into specifics about all of the new personnel on the roster. That is changing as we shift into season mode. Kendrick Law will have a big role in Kentucky’s offense and appears to be the favorite to lead the team in receptions and targets while also serving as a kickoff returner and potential gadget player in the run game.

Luckett’s Scouting Notebook: Kendrick Law

Over at KSR+, I put together scouting write-ups on each of Kentucky’s transfer additions from the offseason after watching film and collecting data. This is my breakdown of Kendrick Law.

The former top-100 recruit spent three seasons at Alabama. Law was never a top receiver for the Crimson Tide but was always part of the rotation playing inside and out. Brings kick return experience to Lexington. Projects to play the slot position.

Law is a wideout with a rocked-up build. Could use improvement getting in and out of breaks. Was a factor for the Tide in the jet sweep game and looks comfortable with the ball in his hands as runner. Shows some YAC creation out of the short passing game due to strength and ability to run through tackles. North/south runner in the open field. Owns absolute tenacity as a blocker and can bury defensive backs.

True slot receiver with a physical play style. Run-and-catch wideout who can consistently turn short passes into efficient gains.
