Kentucky Baseball left-handed pitcher Dominic Niman was named SEC Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete game shutout against then No. 13 ranked Alabama on Saturday.

Niman dominated the Tide, allowing just three hits and no earned runs while striking out seven batters. The lefty threw 100 pitches, completing just the second complete game shutout in the SEC this season and only by a SEC pitcher vs. a conference opponent.

His complete game shutout marked the first by a Kentucky pitcher against SEC competition since current St. Louis Cardinal left-handed pitcher Zack Thompson did so against Georgia on March 29, 2019.

“I’ve had a complete game but never a shutout. That was awesome,” Niman said following his stellar performance. “It feels awesome just getting a win for the guys and we gotta get another one [Sunday].”

The grad transfer spent his first four seasons of college baseball at Central Connecticut State before transferring to Kentucky in the offseason. Niman pitched 213 innings at CCST, posting a 16-9 record with a 3.25 ERA.

He was named a NCBWA First-Team Preseason All-America, bringing lofty expectations to Lexington. Through eight starts, Niman has emerged as a high-level Saturday starter for the Cats. The left-hander boasts a 6-2 record with a 3.59 ERA in 47 2/3 innings pitched.

Niman’s next start will come on the road against Auburn on Saturday, April 13.

The Bat Cats will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Samford for their second road midweek game of the season. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
