Kentucky baseball ended the SEC Tournament with a 1-2 record and fell short of the semifinals after dropping a one-run game to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats have returned to Lexington and will get to watch the Selection Show on Monday from home.

The Bat Cats might have lost that No. 1 overall seed in Hoover.

On Friday night, Tennessee beat Mississippi State in a one-run game to become the only top-four seed in the SEC Tournament to advance to Saturday after Kentucky, Arkansas, and Texas A&M all bowed out early. The Vols will face Vanderbilt on in the SEC Tournament semifinals and may have secured the No. 1 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament.

The D1 Baseball staff updated their projections late on Friday night and had Tennessee taking over the No. 1 spot with Kentucky falling to No. 2 overall.

Kentucky (40-14) is scheduled to host Nebraska, California, and Norther Kentucky in the regional round. In the super regionals, Kentucky would then host the winner of region hosted by No. 15 seed Indiana State that includes Mississippi State, Indiana, and High Point. The Wildcats are in position to host a super regional for the first time in program history.

Mingione’s club currently ranks No. 3 in RPI trailing only Texas A&M and Tennessee. The Bat Cats have 16 road wins, the No. 6 strength of schedule, 22 Quad 1 victories, and a 10-3 record in Quads 3 and 4.

The entire 64-team field for the 2024 NCAA Tournament will be announced on Monday, May 27 at 12:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
