Kentucky Basketball kicks John Stamos out of coaching in Disney+ series

by: Nick Roush07/03/21@RoushKSR

Kentucky basketball takes center stage in the latest Disney+ original. Big Shot spends most of the series focused on an all-girls high school basketball team, but to get there the show had to take a brief pitstop in the college ranks.

John Stamos is the star of the show. The Full House alumnus portrays Marvyn Korn, a slick general on the Wisconsin sideline as one of the nation’s winningest college basketball coaches. Korn’s career all comes crashing down when a Kentucky basketball player drops a Wisconsin player to the floor with a hard screen. Stamos loses his mind and takes page from Bobby Knight, launching a chair at an official.

All of the action takes place within the first 30 seconds of the series’ pilot. Disney+ uses the UK logo, but not the Wildcats’ signature checkerboard jerseys. A snapshot of Stamos before his character goes berserk:

The show centers around Korn’s rehabilitation into coaching and has plenty of life lessons along the way.

The first minute of the show isn’t the only Kentucky connection in Big Shot. Former Kentucky women’s basketball player Keyla Snowden serves on the crew as a consultant and coordinator of the basketball sequences. In one episode she even got to play an extra, “Chelsie,” and directed all of the action on the court.

It’s safe to say that Kentucky Basketball is a big deal in Big Shot.
