Kentucky football’s wide receiver room is looking more and more like one of the program’s biggest strengths moving forward. It could get even deeper heading into the 2023 season.

On Monday afternoon, four-star class of 2023 pass catcher Karmello English dropped his top five list of preferred college destinations. Kentucky made the cut and was joined by Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, and Jackson State to make up English’s group. The Phenix City, AL product was in Lexington two weekends ago for an unofficial visit to watch UK host top-ranked Georgia.

English was previously committed to Auburn from July until September before reopening his recruitment. According to the On3 Consensus, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound WR is considered the No. 174 overall senior prospect in the country and is also ranked among the top 25 at his position. Kentucky’s WR coach Scott Woodward serves as English’s lead recruiter.

Since backing off his commitment to Auburn, which is on the verge of hiring Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze, the likes of Kentucky and Michigan have drawn the most attention in this recruitment. English was in Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit back in October and visited both schools officially over the summer.

Jackson State, which offered English back in January, made his top five after not making the top seven back in April. The Tigers are led by Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who has made plenty of noise as an ace recruiter over the last year. Sanders has Jackson State sitting on an 11-0 record this season, although his name is coming up more and more in coaching search rumors. Alabama is also in the mix and has been a constant among his list of preferred schools dating back to the day he earned his offer from the Crimson Tide in April 2021.

No timetable for a final decision has been set.

Kentucky currently has two talented ’23 wide receivers already committed in four-star Shamar Porter and high three-star Anthony Brown. Add those two (or three if English lands with UK) in with freshmen superstars Dane Key and Barion Brown, and the Wildcats will have endless weapons surrounding next season’s quarterback and beyond, whoever that might be.
