Kentucky finishes second on the USA Today’s Misery Index

mark-Stoops I know this may be hard to believe, but Kentucky made a headline for being one of the most miserable college football teams in America. Go figure. USA Today's Dan Wolken took time out of his day to inform his readers not about the breakout players, upsets, or some of the magnificent highlights of the weekend, but which fanbase is suffering the most right now. To no one's surprise, UK football made the list, and they're right there competing for the top spot.
2. Kentucky: The situation in Lexington is starting to quickly look untenable. Kentucky’s 45-7 loss at Florida was the kind of effort reminiscent of a team at the end of a bad season that has packed it in on a coaching staff, not a group fighting to redeem itself after an embarrassing Week 1 loss to Southern Miss. There was nothing positive about Kentucky’s trip to Gainesville – nothing – and there are no easy answers for Mark Stoops from here. As a result of the contract extension Kentucky gave him in 2014, Stoops is owed $12 million if he’s fired after this year. Even for an SEC program, that’s a massive chunk of change. Keeping him around, on the other hand, will only inflame a fan base that has increasingly given up hope that he’s the guy to turn things around. Stoops has done nothing on the field to merit any job security or belief from Kentucky fans, but the best answer for now may be to grin and bear it.
Last week, Kentucky finished fifth on Wolken's Misery Index after their second half collapse against Southern Miss. Hey, at least UK is moving on up in some kind of rankings, right? As sad as it is, he couldn't be more correct in putting Kentucky at #2 on his list. In fact, if it weren't for Central Michigan's upset win on an untimed down in the 4th quarter (that shouldn't have counted) over Oklahoma State, there's little doubt in my mind that UK would find their way at the top of the list. Come on, Dan. It's not nice to kick someone while they're down.
