We are one sleep away from National Signing Day, and things are still fluid for the Kentucky football program. Two line of scrimmage targets appear to be the most important recruits remaining on Kentucky’s big board.

Five-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin and four-star defensive tackle Deone Walker are both down in Frisco, Texas, at The Star for a National Signing Day event for the All-American Bowl. Each is expected to make their decision on Wednesday.

The two blue chippers met up on Tuesday evening before the big day.

Kiyaunta Goodwin’s long recruitment

Kiyaunta Goodwin has long been one of the top prospects for Kentucky. The local product has been recruited by Vince Marrow since he was an eighth-grader and committed to the Wildcats back in April. However, this recruitment has not slowed down.

Goodwin took official visits to Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M, Michigan, and Michigan State this season. However, Goodwin constantly was in Lexington and made it to Kroger Field for six games this season. The recruitment has had a lot of twists and turns, but it appears to be a battle between Kentucky and Michigan State at the moment with Texas A&M lurking in the shadows.

If landed, Goodwin would be arguably the biggest recruiting win of the Mark Stoops era.

Kentucky vs. Steve Clinkscale

Surprisingly after spring football, Michigan had a staff opening after Maurice Linguist took the head coaching job at Buffalo. Steve Clinkscale was the first call for Jim Harbaugh, and the five-year assistant at Kentucky made the move to the Big Ten.

Clinkscale has pursued both Goodwin and Dane Key but appear to have lost on both recruitments. However, he was able to land Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood cornerback Myles Pollard over Kentucky. However, the ultimate prize always seemed to be Detroit Cass Tech defensive tackle Deone Walker.

The 6-foot-6 nose tackle has had a back-and-forth recruitment with both Michigan and Kentucky. Clinkscale is running point for the Wolverines as offensive line coach Eric Wolford has helped keep Kentucky in the hunt.

As signing day looms, this battle could go either way. Perhaps Goodwin is doing some recruiting for Kentucky down in the Lonestar State.

Regardless, Wednesday will be a wild day for the Big Blue Nation.
