KSR GAMEDAY: Kentucky Takes SEC Losing Streak Between the Hedges

It’s been a year since Kentucky football fans have watched the Wildcats defeat an SEC foe. Georgia plans on extending that SEC losing streak from seven to eight.
Kentucky football fans are well aware of the numbers by now. The Cats have only won two of their last 15 SEC games. Bush Hamdan‘s offense has yet to score more than two touchdowns against an SEC foe. This week marks 10 years since Kentucky overcame a 14-point deficit to win a game. Those numbers are bad, but Georgia is dealing with some streaky numbers of their own.
Kirby Smart dropped to 1-7 in his career against Alabama with a loss last Saturday at Sanford Stadium. It was Georgia’s first home loss at night since Randall Cobb and Co. took down the Dawgs in 2009. For history to repeat itself from that fateful night, the Cats will have to defy history. Smart is 16-3 after a loss, and hasn’t lost consecutive regular season games since his first season in 2016.
These Dawgs look a little different than some of Smart’s other teams. Their wide receivers are difference-makers who can put Kentucky’s secondary in a bind. Gunner Stockton has yet to throw an interception this season, while Cutter Boley had three turnovers in one quarter of his first SEC start. Bush Hamdan plans on playing more methodically to protect his quarterback, but can they score enough to keep it close? We’ll find out when shoe meets leather for a noon kickoff on ABC.

Kentucky vs. Georgia Gambling Angles and Trends
Kentucky is a 20.5-point underdog against Georgia on BetMGM, with a total of 48.5. Even though the Cats appear overwhelmed in this matchup, Stoops and Smart got a knack for playing close games.
The Bulldogs are 16-0 outright but 0-15-1 ATS in their last 16 games as a 20-point favorite. Kentucky is on a 6-1 ATS run in this series and has covered as a 20-plus point dog in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2024. Kentucky is 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 games as a 15-plus point road underdog with covers against three playoff teams last season.

A Big Injury for Kentucky?
Alex Wollschlaeger had not appeared on the availability report at all this season. On Friday night, he showed up as questionable. That means there’s a 50% chance Kentucky will be without its starting right tackle against Georgia. Not ideal! Last year, Maxwell Hairston was abruptly thrown onto the availability rteport the night before a game, then we didn’t see him in action for almost two months. Hopefully, history does not repeat itself.

Homecoming for More Than a Dozen Cats
Thirteen Kentucky football players call the Peach State home. Nobody’s playing better than Tavion Gadson. After suffering a knee injury in the spring of 2024, his first year of real action has been outstanding. According to PFF, Gadson is a Top-5 defensive tackle in the SEC. The Savannah native is expecting a rowdy group of family friends in Athens who typically wear red.
“It’s gonna feel good, just because I got a lot of people who, even though they might be with me, Georgia’s they’re team. So it’s gonna be good to really get all of that bumping in, like pre-game, just laughing about it,” he said.
Georgia Natives on the Kentucky Roster
LB Antwan Smith (Atlanta)
LB Devin Smith (Brunswick)
QB Zach Calzada (Buford)
DB Demarcus Gardner (Cedartown)
DB JQ Hardaway (Columbus)
OL Jalen Farmer (Covington)
LB Quintavion Norman (Covington)
RB Jamarion Wilcox (Douglasville)
DL Nic “Happy” Smith (Loganville),
DE Lorenzo Cowan (Savannah)
DL Tavion Gadson (Savannah)
LB Grant Godfrey (Suwanee)
OL Kyle Mixon (Warner Robins)
Fit Check
While Georgia wears its traditional red with silver britches, Kentucky is taking its road whites to Athens. They’re changing up things ever so slightly, wearing a combo we don’t see often (and my personal favorite): blue helmets, white jerseys, and blue pants.
College Football on TV
The calendar has given us a second straight year with an unusual schedule that features two bye weeks for each team. A lot of teams are enjoying a week off, but we still got some intriguing action around the SEC. Diego Pavia is trying to go 2-0 vs. Bama, while Arch Manning will get tested at Florida.
