Kentucky Given A 6.41% Chance Of Winning It All

by:Will Lentz01/19/11

If the NCAA tournament were to start today, Kentucky would have a pretty good shot at running the table according to some random guy on the internet.  One dude has written up a program that takes a number of popular ranking devices – Ken Pomeroy’s rankings, RPI, and the like (which already makes him more credible than Jerry Tipton’s friends at Bleacher Report,) and has filled out the march madness bracket as though it would start this weekend.

According to his analysis, Kentucky would be a 2 seed in the Kansas bracket, facing Long Beach State in the first round – and has a 95% chance to win (the first game.)  Overall they are 5th most likely to win the tournament at 6.41%, with Duke and Ohio State both having over 18%.

Of course in the grand scheme of things this means nothing about our chances come March, but it’s interesting look at anyways.
