As you might expect, Kentucky’s loss to Notre Dame is reflected in the NET Rankings. The Cats fell from No. 39 to No. 53, which is fifth in the SEC behind LSU (3), Tennessee (10), Alabama (11), and Auburn (12). The loss to Notre Dame falls in Quad Three, an ugly blemish on Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament resume; however, the good news is there are plenty of chances to make up for it, starting with a Quad 1 opportunity in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Before we get into that, here’s the NET Top 25:

  1. Arizona
  2. Baylor
  3. LSU
  4. Houston
  5. Kansas
  6. Purdue
  7. Gonzaga
  8. Duke

NET changes for the 2021-22 season

This is the fourth season the NCAA has used the NET Rankings as its primary metric to evaluate the strength of teams’ wins and losses. This year, the formula has been tweaked. From now on, the NET will only use two components, adjusted net efficiency rating and Team Value Index (TVI), which is a result-based feature that rewards teams for beating quality opponents, particularly away from home. Win percentage, adjusted win percentage, and scoring margin are no longer used in the NET rankings.

Kentucky’s Team Sheet

The Cats are 7-2 this season, with one Quad 1 loss (Duke) and one Quad 3 loss (Notre Dame). The win over Ohio falls in Quad 3 and the rest of Kentucky’s victories are in Quad 4. On Saturday, Kentucky has a chance for a Quad 1 win vs. Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas. Obviously, that would be huge in terms of momentum and resume.
