Kentucky punter Colin Goodfellow has put name in transfer portal

Editor’s Note: This post was originally written Jan. 6. One week later Colin Goodfellow returned to the Kentucky football team. After participating in spring practice he decided to spend his Super Senior season elsewhere, returning to the transfer portal Friday, April 29.
Kentucky’s starting punter from its recent Citrus Bowl-winning squad won’t be around heading into 2022. On Thursday evening, it was announced that fifth-year senior Colin Goodfellow decided to put his name in the transfer portal. He will have one year of college eligibility remaining.
Goodfellow appeared in just two games in 2020 for the ‘Cats, taking snaps behind two-time All-American and Ray Guy Award winner Max Duffy. But in 2021, as a full-time starter for Kentucky, Goodfellow attempted 35 punts for an average of 45.9 yards per punt with a season-long of 70 yards, which he did against both Georgia and Mississippi State.

A walk-on from Cleveland, OH, Goodfellow went to high school with UK teammate Darian Kinnard at football powerhouse St. Ignatius. He filled in for Duffy a couple of times in 2020, then brought out the boomstick against Chattanooga in the 2021 season-opener. In his first game as the primary punter, Goodfellow launched a ball 59 yards and averaged 50.5 yards per kick.
With Goodfellow out, Kentucky is left with two options at punter heading into 2022, sophomore Wilson Berry and incoming freshman Jackson Smith.
