Kentucky running back Ray Davis is taking the next step in his football career.

On Monday afternoon, Davis announced through social media that he will declare for the 2024 NFL Draft. The senior running back played just one year at Kentucky after spending two seasons at Temple and two more at Vanderbilt. While suiting up for the Wildcats, Davis broke the school’s single-season record for most touchdowns by one player with 20, surpassing the previous mark of 19 that was held by Benny Snell Jr.

In his announcement post, Davis thanked the Big Blue Nation, the Kentucky coaches and staff members, and his former schools for helping him reach this point in his career. He had the option to return for one more season of college football but instead has elected to make the leap to the pros.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for the position he has put me in today. To Big Blue Nation, thank you for showing me the best parts of college football. To the coaches and staff at Kentucky, thank you for allowing me to fine tune my skills and grow as a young man. To my teammates you will forever be my family.

“Thank you to Vanderbilt and Temple for taking a chance on me and molding me into the player and man I am today. This journey has led me to many blessings and greater things ahead.

“After long talks with my family and friends, I will be declaring for the 2024 NFL draft. This has always been a dream of mine and is a challenge I’m ready to take on. Forever the underdog.

“#1 Signing out.”

Davis capped off his Kentucky career in spectacular fashion, scoring three touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-31 Governor’s Cup win over the Louisville Cardinals. He finished his final regular-season game at UK with 14 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown on the ground — including the go-ahead 37-yard touchdown run — in addition to four catches for 51 yards and two more scores.

During his lone season in Lexington, Davis posted 1,066 rushing yards with an average of 5.7 yards per carry. His best outing came in a win over Florida on Sept. 30 when he rattled off 280 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. It is unknown at this time if Davis will compete in Kentucky’s bowl game.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Michigan, with the first round on Thursday, April 25, the second and third rounds on Friday, April 26, and the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday, April 27.
