Kentucky still has to figure out who is staying and who is going from last season’s roster, but the Wildcats are always looking to bring in potential pieces through the transfer portal.

Add Milwaukee guard BJ Freeman to the list of targets.

According to PortalUpdates, Freeman has heard from over a dozen high-major programs, including Kentucky. Along with the ‘Cats, the 6-foot-6 junior has also been contacted by Texas A&M, Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova, Xavier, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Tennessee, Missouri, Central Florida, Colorado, and Arkansas.

During the 2023-24 season, Freeman averaged 21.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals in 32.2 minutes per contest. He started 22 of 27 games for Milwaukee, shooting 42.2 percent overall, 35.1 percent from deep, and 82.4 percent from the line. Freeman was named Second Team All-Horizon League for the second season in a row.

Freeman, a native of North Carolina, was unranked out of high school, starting his college career at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. While helping lead his team to an Elite Eight appearance in NJCAA Division I National Tournament, Freeman averaged 13.2 points per game on 37.1 percent outside shooting.

From there, Freeman landed at a Divison I program with Milwaukee and immediately made an impact as a starter. He was named Second Team All-Horizon League in 2022-23 after averaging 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per contest. Additionally, Freeman recorded the school’s fifth-ever triple-double and also dropped 43 points in a win over Stetson.

Freeman then returned to the Panthers for another run in 2023-24 and upped his production even more, but his season came to a close in the Horzion League Tournament against — of course — the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. A back injury forced him to miss eight games, but he was Milwaukee’s best player when healthy.

Freeman has also declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, but will have the option to return to college if he does not receive the feedback he’s looking for.
