The Fourth of July holiday and the weeks that surround it have become the official commitment time in college football recruiting. From June 28 until July 8, Kentucky added five commitments to its 2024 recruiting class over just 11 days. UK now has 14 prospects in the fold with the additions of Elijah Groves and Terhyon Nichols giving the program three blue-chip players.

However, some big fish remain on the recruiting board. Three targets stand out in this slow recruiting period as the talking season takes over.

Jason Patterson

In the most recent recruiting update for the On3 Industry Ranking, Sneads (Fla.) High product Jason Patterson received a significant bump. The rising senior who led the state of Florida in rushing yards last season is now a four-star prospect and ranked No. 382 overall. A decision is coming soon.

Patterson will be committing on Aug. 1. Kentucky is a finalist along with Boston College, Cincinnati, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt. The Cats are the heavy favorite for the blue-chipper in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Patterson teaming up with high three-star Tovani Mizell would give new running backs coach Jay Boulware some good young talent for a rebuilding position that will likely have a committee approach in 2023.

Brian Robinson

Brian Robinson is the No. 131 ranked player in the 2024 On3 Industry ranking, but the No. 7 EDGE prospect and No. 5 player in Ohio is looking for a new home. The rising senior will reportedly not play for Austintown (Ohio) Fitch this fall.

Despite the uncertainty of this situation, Robinson is still Kentucky’s top defensive target. With Michigan recently adding EDGE Jacob Smith via commitment, the Wolverines appear out of the running in this recruitment. Ohio State is lurking in the shadows, but this is currently a battle between Kentucky, Maryland, and Pittsburgh.

I like the Cats’ chances.

Hardley Gilmore

Hardley Gilmore was a surprised late reclassification to the 2024 class, and Kentucky was the first school to host the wideout for an official visit. UCF and Penn State also received official visits in June. The Wildcats are in a good spot and just need to close.

Prediction throughout the industry are being logged for UK. Gilmore is the No. 276 ranked player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking and a top-50 wideout. The Wildcats likely need to get this South Florida recruitment wrapped up before official visits can begin occurring in the fall.
