Kentucky women’s basketball’s new head coach Kenny Brooks is completely rebuilding the Wildcats’ roster this offseason. As a result, it means there’s going to be some departures.

We’ve already seen eight Kentucky players from last season put their names into the transfer portal. On Friday evening, the program lost another piece.

Class of 2024 signee Ramiya White announced on Instagram that she is reopening her recruitment. White, a 6-foot-5 in-state center out of Butler in Louisville, KY, committed to the Wildcats under former head coach Kyra Elzy back in June and then signed her National Letter of Intent in November. She chose Kentucky over the likes of Mississippi State, Clemson, Syracuse, Kansas State, and Florida State.

“Thank you Big Blue Nation for the amount of love and support that was shown from Day 1!” White wrote on Instagram. “I am forever indebted to Coach Elzy, her staff and the entire Lexington UK community for making me feel like such a special part of the program before even stepping foot on campus. Though I looked forward to continuing my collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, after much reflection, I have decided that it is within my best interest to reopen my recruitment!”

As a senior for Butler in 2023-24, White led the Bearettes to the semifinals of the Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena but came up short against McCracken County. On the season, White averaged 11.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per outing.

Considering the roster overhaul we’ve seen from Brooks this week, this news isn’t much of a surprise.

Brooks has already brought in two of his former Virginia Tech players in All-American point guard Georgia Amoore and 6-foot-5 sophomore center Clara Strack through the portal, along with 6-foot-3 JUCO transfer Amelia Hassett.

Also on Friday morning, four-star class of 2024 wing Lexi Blue announced her decision to flip from the Hokies to the Wildcats. Another incoming freshman, 6-foot-6 center Clara Silva out of Portugal, could soon make the switch from Virginia Tech to Kentucky, as well.

Kentucky has another class of 2024 prospect who committed under Elzy. 6-foot-4 Canadian guard Tanah Becker chose the ‘Cats in early March, just a couple of weeks before Elzy was fired.
