In his first offseason at Kentucky, Kenny Brooks has had to build the roster from the ground up. He’s been tasked with attacking the transfer portal heavily, and he’s done it about as well as anyone.

Kentucky was named as one of the “winners” of the transfer portal by On3’s Talia Goodman on Wednesday. The ‘Cats were one of 10 schools mentioned.

Brooks did a lot of his damage in the portal by bringing over some of his players from Virginia Tech. Alongside the high school commitments, Kentucky also landed Clara Strack and All-American guard Georgia Amoore. Additionally, Kentucky flipped JUCO transfer Amelia Hassett after she was previously committed to the Hokies as well.

North Carolina transfer Teonni Key, who was a top 10 recruit in the 2021 class, is also a nice addition for Kentucky. She’s been riddled by the injury bug as of late, but she definitely has the potential to be great down the road. She’s the only non-Virginia Tech major conference transfer Kentucky has landed. However, there could be another commitment from a Power 5 transfer on the way.

Then, Brooks was able to find some proven mid-major talent too in Charlotte transfer Dazia Lawrence and Penn transfer Jordan Obi. Both were all-conference stars who have major, major upside coming into the SEC. Having a pretty high ceiling but most importantly a high floor is pivotal for two of your starters.

Even though Kentucky has missed on some key transfers, they have landed just as many. Kenny Brooks has set himself up for success in year one in Lexington.
