KSR Today: Happy New Year!!!!!

Good morning and Happy New Year, Big Blue Nation. 2024 looks great on you already. Today, we all begin new goals and promises to ourselves in this new calendar year ahead of us, things like dieting, working out, or being a better human. Most of us won’t make it to Thursday with our New Year’s resolutions, but I hope YOU are one of the exceptions and you stay committed to your new year, new you plan until at least the middle of the month.
For now, my 2024 priority is surviving this early morning after a night out with friends in downtown Lexington. That alarm rang early this morning, so, humor me by reading through yet another Monday morning of news, views, and other things to know here on Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com. It’s the first of 52 Monday mornings we’ll spend together this year.
No Radio Show
There are no days off here at KentuckySportsRadio.com, but today’s episode of Kentucky Sports Radio will be a special replay episode while iHeart takes the day off to celebrate the new year. Tomorrow, the radio crew will return to its regularly scheduled programming from 10 a.m. to noon on affiliates statewide and beyond. There will be plenty to say about last Friday’s doubleheader and any news from the weekend.
John Calipari’s Call-In Radio Show
John Calipari also has today off from radio obligations. He and Tom Leach postponed their usual Monday night call-in show so they can ring in the new year with their families. Calipari’s makeup radio date is tomorrow, Tuesday, January 2, from 6-7 p.m.
Matt Jones on ESPN Radio
On your radio and on your TV, KSR’s own Matt Jones is filling in as the guest host on ESPN’s “Unsportsmanlike with Evan, Canty, and Michelle” from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Matt was assigned the holiday shift that began way earlier than he typically rises, especially on New Year’s Day. Nobody should be up at 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
But, he answered the bell and is talking ESPN Radio listeners through four hours of their first morning of 2024. Today’s college football schedule should give him plenty to talk about.
College Football Today
Today’s college football slate is the one we’ve been waiting for. If you’re up for it, LSU and Tennessee each have day games, but the real fun begins at 5:00 when Alabama and Michigan meet in the first semifinal game. Washington and Texas will follow.

New AP College Basketball Poll
I think we will see a new AP College Basketball Poll today. The new Top 25 is released each Monday, and the Associated Press released one on Christmas Day, so we should expect another today, too. Currently, Kentucky is the eighth-ranked team in the country.
Fourth-ranked Arizona got smoked by Stanford yesterday. On Saturday, No. 7 Florida Atlantic lost to Florida Gulf Coast. There’s an opportunity to climb.
Happy New Year!
