These are busy and exciting times for Big Blue Nation as the UK Athletics calendar reaches a meaningful week for both Kentucky Basketball and Kentucky Football.

For John Calipari’s Wildcats, the regular season concluded over the weekend with one of the program’s most impressive wins in ages, including one of its better individual performances in Antonio Reeves’ 37 points on the road in Bud Walton Arena. Now it’s on to Nashville for the SEC Tournament where one of (6) Vanderbilt, (11) Georgia, or (14) LSU will be the opponent in Friday’s quarterfinal round. Tip-off is estimated for around 9:30 p.m. ET.

Kentucky earned the No. 3 seed and the double-bye with Saturday’s win.

Cason Wallace update expected on John Calipari’s radio show

Before the team heads down to Nashville for what is hopefully a long weekend, John Calipari has his Monday night radio obligations back in Lexington. So tonight at 6 p.m., tune in for Calipari with Tom Leach and Bob In Jamestown for the first John Calipari Call-In Show of the postseason. A large listening audience will be tuned in expecting an injury update on Cason Wallace and Calipari’s thoughts on his team and the draw at the SEC Tournament.

For fans unable to listen, we will recap Calipari’s comments from the hourlong show here on Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com.

Kentucky Basketball likely to fall back out of the AP Poll

Last Monday, Kentucky snapped a streak of eight weeks outside the AP Top 25 poll by earning a No. 23 ranking. This week, Kentucky will likely drop back out of the cool club following last Wednesday’s home loss to Vanderbilt on Senior Night.

Some good news, Kentucky is still a Top 25 team in the NET Rankings at No. 19 in today’s update.

Kentucky Football begins Spring Practice today

On the other side of campus, Kentucky Football begins spring practice today at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility next door to Kroger Field. For the next four weeks (after a spring break next week), the Wildcats will battle for early advantages in the positional competitions; they will welcome the newcomers, including the new coaches; re-piece the Big Blue Wall; install new playbooks to learn before the fall; and lots, lots more.

It’s Football Time In The Bluegrass again and you can get ready for it with KSR’s Kentucky Football Spring Practice Primer.

Mark Stoops to kick things off with a Spring Press Conference

Before spring ball gets going, Mark Stoops will welcome the media into the Kroger Field media room for a lengthy conversation about all that’s happened since we last spoke and what’s ahead on the 15-practice spring schedule. He has a new quarterback with high expectations, his former offensive coordinator back in his old office, spring goals, and speculation of a nine-SEC game schedule to discuss.

Watch Stoops’ press conference on the KSR YouTube Channel later today. Read about his comments here on KSR, too.

Practice will be open to fans on Saturday, April 1

A reminder, Kentucky Football’s practice on Saturday, April 1, will be open to fans. This year, there isn’t a true Spring Game due to field renovations inside Kroger Field, so this is one of the only opportunities to see the Wildcats before the fall.

Details are still to come but mark your calendar now.

Will Levis shined at the NFL Combine

While Kentucky welcomes a new QB1 to practice, its former QB1 put on a show in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine. Will Levis impressed scouts and spectators with his cannon at the pre-draft workout event where Rich Eisen said there was a buzz in the building for Levis’ turn to the throw.

He did not disappoint.

Kentucky Baseball won Sunday’s game in walk-off fashion

Over at Kentucky Proud Park on Sunday, Kentucky Baseball won its ninth game with a walk-off, two-out RBI single to beat Indiana State, 7-6. Senior Jase Felker drove in Ryan Waldschmidt’s winning run to put the Wildcats (9-2) ahead for good in the bottom of the ninth. Waldschmidt went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI in the win.

Up next, Kentucky has the day off to rest, and then it is back to Kentucky Proud Park to host Murray State at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on SECN+ for fans unable to attend in Lexington.

“Southern Hoops” docuseries going to the 2000s tonight

A Monday evening tradition in the Franklin household has become watching “Southern Hoops: A History of SEC Basketball,” the seven-part docuseries about the Southeastern Conference. A decade-by-decade look at the best conference in college basketball, last week we went to the 1990s for Kentucky’s resurgence on the national level and its rivalry with Arkansas. Tonight in Part Six, Tubby Smith will be featured along with the Florida Gators, Candace Parker, and LSU Women’s Basketball in the 2000-2011 episode. 9 p.m. on SEC Network.

Immanuel Quickley scored a career-high 38 for the Knicks

In the National Basketball Association last night, former Kentucky Wildcat/SEC Player of the Year Immanuel Quickley scored a career-high 38 points for the New York Knicks in Boston. Today the New York Post read, “NEW YORK QUICKS!”

Listen to KSR from 10 a.m. to noon

Coming up at 10 a.m., KSR’s morning radio program will be live from KSBar and Grille for two hours to discuss Kentucky’s huge win at Arkansas and what’s ahead for the Wildcats. Shannon The Dude is out, but I’m in for a rare Monday appearance to help Matt and Ryan celebrate beating the Razorbacks.

Go Cats.
